This is a difficult time, a time like most of us have never experienced. We don’t have a good frame of reference for what life should look like. As parents, we worry about the safety of our families and how every decision we make will affect them. We wonder if we should go to the store or if we should just make do with what we have; or if we should bring the groceries into our home or sanitize them outside first? These at any other time in our lives would be simple decisions, but today the simple things can seem hard. We’re used to having experts with all the answers guide us or at the very least we can google the answers we need.
We may also look to social media for a frame of reference for what other families are doing. But remember, you don’t need to be Super Mom/Dad if you are staying home with your kids and Pinterest and Facebook may not be your friend! Lives represented on Facebook aren’t real! Everyone has struggles and rough days, they just don’t post those on Facebook. Choose one thing you want to do with your kids and start with that. Incorporate one idea into your routine tomorrow and work on that for a few days. It’s not necessary to do everything at once, no one can.
Parenting is hard work in the best of times. During these days that seem to have no definition and one day runs into the next it would be normal to feel overwhelmed, fatigued, and maybe a little “off”. Everyone is feeling more stress and anxiety so give each other and yourselves grace. We’re all in this together.
But here’s the thing you need to remember. Here’s what you should post on your mirror and recite each morning. Here’s the most important thing…. There is One who knows more than Google and more than the experts … He IS the expert! …. AND He knows your name. Take your concerns and fears to Him and He will get you through. He can calm the storm. He desires to strengthen you so that you can handle the storm! And He will walk with you through the storm.
“Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
