EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that has been shown to significantly reduce symptoms of trauma and anxiety. The therapist works to help clients identify negative or traumatic experiences, as well as troubling thoughts and feelings, and engages the brain’s natural healing process to quickly improve many emotional issues and often times completely eliminate symptoms that have been distressing the client. EMDR utilizes Bilateral Stimulation in the form of eye movements or tactile buzzers to engage the left and right hemispheres of the brain while bringing up distressing thoughts, feelings or memories to help desensitize intense emotions and re-process events so that they are stored more adaptively in the brain.
